What does
a penny
landing
in a tincup
sound like?
Will some believe it
“real”
money
the scent of warm copper
in the hand
or a useless token
representing another useless token
for another cold purpose…
What if ones personal purpose is
to have
no purpose at all?
Like the penny that once
amounted
to something
but is
to be
No More
in my
country.
Yet echoes
of pennies
clink on.

What is more important, sense or cents… I know what is to me… lol. This minute writing of minutes above was inspired by a prompt about employing the senses. Today was hearing. The noises in my ears don’t necessarily wind up being what I hear… at all. You should try it yourself and let me know what your results are, please, if you do
Here is the lovely lady who inspired me to try this if you’d like to read more: http://liv2write2day.wordpress.com/2011/10/12/wordsmith-wednesday-sensory-description-hearing/#comment-8006

Aurora, this is perfect. I enjoyed how the sound of the penny clunking into the cup almost denotes emptiness and raises all kinds of questions, like how things are devalued over the years. At another level, it raises the issues of basic human values. Hmmm. Thought provoking and I’m so glad you share it.
Loving that you enjoyed so much since your prompt was my inspiration!!! See you soon
You are such a versatile blogger and a wonderful writer.
It’s purely a reflection of my brilliant peer group, each of you make me reach higher, try harder and stay writing … love your pages and the way you roar
I am looking forward to the older post entitled “Breast Massage”…but I enjoyed this.
I took your experiment to the beach. The wind was blowing past my ears and the waves were waging war with the shore. I dropped the coin into the tin cup and didn’t hear a thing.
I took your experiment up into the mountains. The wind was blowing past my ears and I was admiring the beautiful clouds passing over the mountain tops. I dropped the coin into the tin cup and didn’t hear a thing.
I took your experiement up to space. I looked at our beautiful blue planet, the moon, the sun, and the trillions of stars and galaxies in this one Universe that we know for certain exists. I dropped the coin in the tin cup and didn’t hear a thing.
I took your experiment to the city. Cars and people rushing buy. A pretty woman walked by. I dropped the coin into the tin cup and didn’t hear a thing. But a bum sitting next to me asked me for the coin so I gave it to him. It has not use to me.
Holy Jumping Catfish, I am gob-smacked. I have read what you wrote three times and keep discovering elements I missed. Also, it’s going to sound strange but I feel as though this is all so familiar to me somehow… did you publish this elsewhere perhaps? Doesn’t matter. I like. Very much. Reading again. Thank you for joining in on the sound of uselessness LOL Nicely done.
Beautifully done! I saw this challenge, just wasn’t up for it this week. You sure were, though!
Thanks, Crazy Chick, it was fun
First this post made me think of the game ‘Penny-can!’ from the show ‘Cougar Town’. And 2nd, when are they getting rid of the penny? Will we still get to keep them or do we have to get rid of them all? I think I heard about this, but when I left it was just rumours. I’m not sure how I feel on the subject.
I’m not exactly sure of when the penny will be gone entirely but merchants are already disregarding it in purchasing where they will “forgive” the pennies if you haven’t got them. So… I would say from that… not too far off. Haven’t seen a date announced but then I’m not a newsmonger either, seldom look at or listen to the news, really.
