What I adore about the rain is the clarity of a single drop, a crystalline, impromptu looking-glass through which everything is softened. Harsh edges of all in view are obscured and it is easier to love the prickly. Songs about laughing in the rain and singing in the rain move me to do just that. Kissing in the rain is even better. There is something so romantic about writing in the rain as to be almost indescribable. On a clear, sunny or blowsy cold day I am inclined to feel the need to get out there, do as much as I can before the rain descends. But as a long time resident of the west coast which some refer to as the “wet coast,” I am ecstatic about having so many days to write guilt free, rain on the roof lulling my thoughts as I work and know that all is well in my world. The flowers and trees are getting their nourishment that I may enjoy them even through the window as I watch droplets collect and fall on the lush foliage of summer. Happen I think I live in Paradise but shhhhh, if I speak too loudly, everyone will know my happy secret of writing in time to a romantic rain that inspires more even on days when I worry my mind has entirely dried up. Rain is just the right writing weather. No rain complainer am I. Rain on, sweet skies. Reign on.

Instant prose inspired by Simon who gave “rain” as the prompt. Enjoy my “rain” thoughts, Simon
“it is easier to love the prickly.”
Ain’t *that* the truth?
Uh huh. lol
Nice, nice! Inside and warm with the rain outside. A writer’s perfect excuse indeed! And the sound, mixing with thoughts. The Rain Muse! All those drop-out sages in China and Japan in their bamboo huts ( pretending to be poor peasants), ink-heavy brushes poised…..
Thanks!
Masterful visuals, Mister! You rock and so do your comments. Thank you so kindly for the inspiration and you are very welcome, anytime
All the British do is complain about the rain. Even when it’s sunny, they say ‘Oh, but it won’t last. It’s going to rain tomorrow.’ They should try living in some parts of Africa for a week or two, then they’d moan about the lack of it, and the browness of the grass.
I’m really pleased to read your celebration of rain
The pleasure is mind, kind woman. I really do love the rain and you are so correct, sometimes humans need a harsh extreme just to realize how fortunate they truly are.

My wife and i like to eat out on the porch when it rains. Full blown out dinners.
My kind of folks, have spent many a storm bundled up under a porch roof just to watch the show. From tree forts as a kid. Had no clue that getting closer to the lightning was not quite the right thing to do, LOL
Kissing in the rain…now that sounds nice.
Yes. It was. Memories, huh. Sometimes better than we remember. Just because they are gone. Ah well.
