Two of my all-time favorite books are ”Creativity” and “Flow” by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. This man inspired me on many occasions to continue writing just by opening either of his two books I own. While he has written many books, these were my joyful introduction to his inspirational work:
“Creativity: Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention”, New York: Harper Collins, 1996.
“Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience”, New York: Harper & Row, 1990.
It’s no surprise to me that Professor Csikszentmihalyi is director of the Quality of Life Research Center (QLRC). A research institute devoted to studying “positive psychology,” this includes the human strengths such as optimism, creativity and intrinsic motivation. Here’s a link to listen to more of what his work is about:
Just watch him for a few minutes or pick up one of his books. I would be very surprised if you could put his work down or stop listening to him because I certainly cannot.
Mind food, soul food and far more than food for thought. It’s my belief that if he can’t get your creative motor running, nothing will.
“Flow… such a short easy mono-syllabic word. Yet we often halt, digress or resist… so much that we lose our ability to simply let things flow…including our own creativity.” ~ Me
